Beta Release of New Maps

We’ve been testing a new mapping technology over the last few weeks. You may have seen “Try our new maps!” links on the site or you may have clicked on one of those links and used the new map.

This new mapping technology uses a Java Applet to display the map and traffic information and is very different from most maps you’ll find elsewhere on the web. It can take a little longer to load, but once loaded it’s usually much faster than other technologies.

Unfortunately one of the main things we found out in our first week or so of testing is that the new maps don’t show up at all for many people who try them. So we’ve taken down the beta links for now while we fix the problem.

If you’d like to try the new maps this link will take you to the city selection page. Click on your city, and when you get there you’ll see the “Try our new maps” link. Clicking on that will load the new maps.

If you just see a grey box, or you don’t like the new maps, you can switch back or tell us about it by clicking on the links next to the new maps.

If you have already switched to the new maps and would like to switch back to the old maps, but don’t see the link, you can follow the procedure above and the links to switch back should show up.
